AMCON BOßELN EVENT

Exploring the Oldenburger Münsterland together – everything about our traditional Boßeln event

Since 2012, we have been inviting our customers, business partners, and our team to our legendary Boßeln event.

Boßeln is a traditional recreational sport from northern Germany in which two teams compete against each other. The goal is to move a ball over a set distance with as few throws as possible — usually along roads or paths.

In the Oldenburger Münsterland region, Boßeln is deeply rooted in local culture. Especially during the winter months, clubs, neighbourhood groups, and circles of friends come together to compete in friendly matches. Socializing, community, and tradition are just as important as the sporting competition itself.

We would like to share this special tradition with our partners while also creating space for exchange and networking. To combine tradition, sport, fun, and professional value in one event, our Boßeln event is divided into three main parts: an inspiring lecture series, the joint Boßeln tour, and a festive evening event.

The lecture series

The opening part of our event is a lecture series held at the Kulturbahnhof in Cloppenburg. Four to five speakers — both from within our company and external experts — provide exciting insights into current topics and developments in the public transport (ÖPNV) industry. The lecture series creates space for professional exchange, stimulating discussions, and new perspectives, and forms the thematic foundation for the rest of the event. The following speakers and topics were in focus at the most recent event:

  • Competition in the railway sector: the most pressing current issues – Dr. Matthias Stoffregen, Managing Director at mofair e. V.
  • What has digitalisation ever really done for us? – Christian Skobjin, Technical Project Manager at Deutschlandtarifverbund GmbH
  • Strategies for digital sales in public transport – Dr. Karl-Heinz Krempels, Project Manager for Digitalisation and Standardisation at Kompetenzcenter Digitalisierung NRW
  • Between timetable and special service: product or individual development at AMCON – Johannes Thie, Team Lead Sales Field Service, and Maxim Hase, Head of Products & Projects at AMCON
  • A return ticket to Japan, please! Fascinating public transport discoveries while travelling overland – Ferry Quast, Consultant at Probst & Consorten Marketing Consultancy

The Boßeln tour

Following the lecture series, we head out into the countryside by bus for our joint Boßeln tour. Depending on the group size, up to eight teams compete against each other, aiming to cover the course by throwing their Boßeln balls in as few throws as possible. The results are, of course, professionally recorded and evaluated by our refereeing team. Right in the middle of the action, our Boßeln wagon sets the atmosphere — with great music, cold drinks, and everything needed for a successful tour. At the same time, the Boßeln tour offers plenty of space for personal conversations, networking, and professional exchange in a relaxed setting.

The evening event

The evening event forms the social highlight of the day. After an active competition in wind and weather, all participants gather at a cosy restaurant to round off the day in a relaxed atmosphere. Guests are treated to a generous kale buffet — true to North German tradition: hearty, regional, and perfectly suited to the season. A live band and a DJ provide the right atmosphere, accompanying the evening with music and ensuring great entertainment throughout.

In addition, the results of the competition are officially announced and the new “Kohlkönig” (kale king) is crowned. Afterwards, everyone celebrates together, dances, and toasts to the new Kohlkönig. Thus, the evening event combines sporting ambition, regional tradition, and lively sociability into a festive conclusion of the day.
