National Express Rail GmbH, based in Cologne, is a private railway company transporting around 20 million passengers annually on the RE 7 and RB 48 lines. Later this year, the RE 5 and RE 6 lines will follow, and next year the RE 4 line will be added. During the selection process for mobile ticket inspection and sales technology, AMCON successfully secured the contract. More than 100 mobile terminals equipped with AMCON’s software will be used for ticket inspection, EBE recording, and sales in case of ticket machine malfunctions. Since the end of 2018, the UFHO system has been certified according to the VDV-KA standard. The software and terminals are scheduled to be operational by summer 2019, just in time for the launch of the RE 5 line.
Mutual excitement about collaboration
“We are very much looking forward to working with AMCON. We were especially impressed by the flexible, vendor-independent UFHO system, and we are excited about the launch of the mobile solution,” says Marcel Winter, Managing Director of National Express Rail GmbH. “Several innovative features are planned, designed and implemented with passenger convenience in mind.” Overall, the seven tariffs VRR, VRS, Westfalentarif, NRW-Tarif, VRM, AVV, and BBDB must be covered, and eTicketing fully integrated. “This project is very complex and involves extensive functionality. Being able to implement it together with National Express is another milestone for our company,” says Darius Rauert, Managing Director of AMCON GmbH.
