AMCON (08 December 2017) – The North Sea island of Sylt is one of Germany’s most popular holiday destinations, combining glamour, fine cuisine, and a unique natural experience. Since October 2016, travelers arriving by car have been able to use the blauen AUTOZUG Sylt operated by Railroad Development Corporation Deutschland (RDC D) as an alternative to Deutsche Bahn for the 35-minute crossing from Niebüll to Westerland/Sylt. In June 2017, the blaue AUTOZUG Sylt introduced online saver fare tickets for the first time. From now on, passengers can book three attractive ticket categories via the expanded webshop at www.autozug-sylt.de: standard fare tickets, flexible fare tickets including train reservation with full flexibility, and the particularly affordable saver fare ticket with fixed train binding. For the first time, car train travelers to and from Sylt now have the option to reserve a guaranteed spot. The webshop clearly displays the lowest available ticket price at a glance for online customers. Payments can be made easily and securely via the payment service provider Klarna using instant bank transfer, invoice, or credit card. The capacity management module provides sales staff at the terminals in Niebüll and Westerland with real-time information on the current occupancy of each departing train.

Software Solution for Webshop and Capacity Management Comes from Cloppenburg

After AMCON developed the backend sales system for the blaue AUTOZUG Sylt last year, including various UFHO modules for shift and device management as well as an overview of fares, schedules, customers, and statistics for RDC D, the existing software solutions were expanded in the second phase to include the webshop. “With the new UFHO modules, we can see the occupancy of our trains at a glance. This is a major advantage for capacity management. In addition, our new online shop allows our customers to conveniently book in advance the ticket that best suits their personal journey to Sylt,” says Dr. Markus Hunkel, Managing Director of RDC Deutschland.

Career Orientation in Oldenburg – AMCON at Job4u

AMCON (September 18, 2017) — Over the weekend, students, university attendees, career starters, and applicants from Oldenburg and the surrounding area had the opportunity to learn about potential employers in the region. The Job4u youth fair primarily targets young adults preparing to enter the workforce who want to gain comprehensive information about various professions, qualifications, and career prospects. Alongside universities and colleges, companies were also available to answer questions from applicants and future specialists.

In addition to the applicants, regional companies had the chance to present themselves at the Weser-Ems-Halle in Oldenburg. Especially in times of skilled labor shortages and demographic changes, over 140 exhibitors used the fair as a successful communication platform to attract applicants and recruit new employees and trainees. At the entrance of Job4u, young visitors received a list of all available internship positions in the region to get an early overview and explore potential careers.

Since the success of a company starts with well-trained employees, AMCON took the opportunity for the second time this year to engage with visitors and answer their questions. AMCON is looking for people with new ideas and visions who are committed to successfully implementing projects with great dedication.

AMCON (September 4, 2017) — Over the weekend, students, graduates, career starters, and applicants from the districts of Cloppenburg and Vechta had the opportunity to learn about potential employers from the region. Whether starting a career locally, changing jobs, pursuing further education, or doing an internship, the 7th Oldenburg Münsterland Job Fair set important milestones for their professional future. The well-organized program of the job fair actively supported applicants in their search for a suitable company.

In addition to the applicants, regional companies also had the chance to present themselves at the Münsterlandhalle in Cloppenburg. Especially in times of skilled labor shortages and demographic changes, over 160 exhibitors used the fair as an effective communication platform to attract applicants and recruit new employees and apprentices. Like last year, there was an apprentice speed-dating event, giving both applicants and employers the chance to quickly meet potential candidates.

The concept of the cross-industry job fair targeted career starters, people looking to change careers, those interested in further education, skilled workers, executives, as well as prospective apprentices and students from all disciplines. Moreover, applicants could have their application documents reviewed and get new application photos taken. Since the success of a company begins with well-trained employees, AMCON also took the opportunity to engage with visitors and answer their questions. AMCON awarded contract for central sales backend system in Münster

AMCON (September 4, 2017) The Westfälische Verkehrsgesellschaft (WVG) will in the future rely on the central UFHO sales system from the Cloppenburg-based software provider AMCON.

In a Europe-wide tender process, AMCON was able to prevail against well-known competitors and convince WVG of its innovative UFHO system.

As part of this new procurement, WVG aims to position itself for the future by implementing the sales backend system as a web-based platform, making it available as a self-service online platform for subscription customers and schools/school authorities. With the integration of a webshop, online portals, all other subscriptions such as student cards, and the connection to IVU, WVG creates a centralized management system and a comprehensive overview of all sales in one place.

“We are pleased to have found a provider in AMCON who wants to positively change processes and workflows with us. The customer is at the center of the new system, to which all other modules are customer-oriented and always focus on customer benefits as well as customer self-service,” says Stefan Janning from WVG.

Completed training as an IT specialist with distinction

AMCON (August 21, 2017) — On Friday, our dual student Sebastian Schnieder was honored by the IHK for his excellent completion of training. During his dual studies in Business Informatics at IBS Oldenburg, he completed the combined training as an IT specialist in application development at AMCON in Cloppenburg and can now celebrate a very good IHK training qualification. In early 2019, he will complete his bachelor’s degree in Business Informatics. “We are very proud of Sebastian’s achievements and are pleased that he enriches our company with his skills,” says Olaf Clausen, Managing Director of AMCON GmbH.

The dual study program in Business Informatics offers students many advantages through the combined training as an IT specialist certified by the IHK, as they receive two qualifications, earn money during their studies, and can directly apply what they have learned in the company. Additionally, career prospects for graduates of dual study programs are very good, as they start their professional lives with practical experience.

Successful cooperation launched: New projects for AMCON in Lübeck and Braunschweig

AMCON (August 9, 2017) — For the second time, AMCON from Cloppenburg is partnering with krauth technology from Eberbach. Stadtverkehr Lübeck has chosen a combined solution from AMCON and krauth technology for the Priwallfähren in Travemünde. Eight ticket machines have been ordered and are scheduled to go into operation soon.

For Braunschweiger Verkehrs-GmbH, 100 mobile ticket machines from krauth technology will be equipped with AMCON’s innovative software solution.

New ticketing system for Priwall ferries

To replace the existing ticketing systems for the Priwallfähren in Travemünde, Stadtverkehr Lübeck has commissioned software developer AMCON from Cloppenburg to deliver eight new ticket machines. With AMCON’s modular UFHO back-end system, integration with Lübeck’s existing PATRIS system will be simple and seamless in the future. The machines also support girocard and credit card payments, including contactless options.

For Olaf Clausen, Managing Director of AMCON and a Lübeck native, it is a special pleasure that Lübeck’s public transport authority was convinced by their innovative ticketing solution. “With our UFHO sales model, Priwall visitors are provided with an intuitive ticket machine interface that makes cashless ticket purchases significantly easier,” says Clausen. The eight new machines are expected to be available to passengers later this year.

Partnership on equal footing

Braunschweiger Verkehrs-GmbH initiated an EU-wide tender for 100 mobile ticket machines to be used in city tram vehicles. These machines will enable passengers to purchase tickets cashlessly in the future. Krauth technology successfully won the tender and is integrating AMCON’s software solution in the implementation. With the acquisition of the mobile machines, the sales processes in the trams will be transformed to increase boarding speed and relieve the passenger service staff on board. “Thanks to the extensive documentation provided during the proposal phase and numerous constructive discussions with the project team at Braunschweiger Verkehrs-GmbH, we were able to offer a tailored solution. Passengers can look forward to our mobile ticket machines as a completely new sales channel,” explains Thomas Kloss from the sales team at krauth technology.

AMCON (August 7, 2017) — The world is becoming increasingly connected, and rapid changes are also impacting mobility. There is a demand for new, demand-oriented transport concepts that can only be made possible through innovative software solutions.

As a provider of fare management, passenger information, and communication systems for buses and trains, AMCON has supported transport companies for many years in making public transport more attractive and efficient. This requires well-trained employees who are not afraid to take on leadership roles.

“Especially in the IT sector, the labor market is highly competitive, and recruiting qualified employees often involves enormous costs. That’s why we have developed our own leadership program for trainees, which specifically prepares our dual students for the tasks of a project manager with leadership responsibilities,” says Olaf Clausen, Managing Director of AMCON. Even during their studies at IBS Oldenburg and the accompanying training in the company, the trainees take on important and demanding tasks of their project managers depending on their performance level and independently handle the execution. This also includes estimating the effort for individual projects and conducting customer meetings, tasks that in many other companies are reserved for more experienced employees. For dual students whose performance already shows leadership qualities, AMCON offers further training measures and leadership seminars, conducted both internally and externally. “Especially the external training measures bring new momentum to our company. In our industry, it is very important to look beyond the immediate scope and work on projects with foresight,” Clausen adds. AMCON places great importance on binding trainees and dual students to the company in the long term. “We aim for a long-term collaboration on equal terms and know that only well-trained and motivated employees contribute to a company’s success. AMCON (July 17, 2017) Our world is becoming increasingly connected, yet it has still not been possible to unify and simplify key processes in mobility nationwide. The tariff landscape in Germany is extremely diverse and confusing for passengers because many providers use different systems. As an internationally active provider of fare management, passenger information, and communication systems for buses and trains, AMCON has been supporting transport companies for many years in making public transport more attractive and efficient. Darius Rauert, Managing Director of AMCON GmbH, provides insight into the challenges public transport will face in the coming years.

How will public transport work in 2030?

By 2030, time will become even more central. Customers will no longer want to deal with complicated tariff interfaces but instead want to receive the information and tickets they need as automatically as possible, without any effort on their part. Topics like mobile tickets and passenger information apps will no longer be seen as innovative but will have long been established.

What are the obstacles to implementing a unified eTicketing system in Germany?

A nationwide unified eTicketing system is an ambitious goal. Currently, numerous eTicket projects are being implemented in Germany to move closer to this objective. However, one must be realistic: public transport in Germany involves many stakeholders with different interests that need to be reconciled. Therefore, the overall goal can only be achieved by meeting many small milestones. It is a rewarding feeling to be part of this journey and to help make public transport in Germany future-proof for its users.

Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt aims to make paper tickets for buses and trains obsolete in almost all German cities by 2019 through electronic chip cards or mobile tickets. How realistic is this?

The question is how one defines “obsolete paper tickets.” Today, you can already travel in many major cities using mobile or online tickets. If that is the standard, then the goal has long been achieved. However, if the aim is not just to make paper tickets unnecessary but to completely eliminate them, then more is required. Nowadays, especially among older generations, many people do not use smartphones or computers. The option to purchase tickets must still be available for this group, as well as for visitors and tourists. This poses a challenge to ensure that everyone has access to public transport. It remains to be seen how long this will actually take.

What innovative topics is AMCON currently focusing on?

AMCON is currently focused on putting the end customer at the center of all sales processes and real-time information. In public transport today, it is common to use different systems for various processes. AMCON aims to achieve much better networking of these individual components. The goal is to develop a CRM system that places the customer at its core and from which all sales channels and information systems are managed.

Smart on the move: Modern ticket sales now also available in Saterland

AMCON (July 12, 2017) – Space-saving, easy to use, and efficient data transfer – Wilhelm Janßen Omnibusbetrieb now relies on the innovative UFHO software solution from the North German software specialist AMCON for ticket sales in the VGC tariff area. This sets the course for modern ticket sales on buses. The buses operate county-wide on lines 900 and S90 from Barßel to Cloppenburg, while the community transport in Saterland is served on lines 901 and 902.

“The simple operation of the UFHO system has already simplified several operational processes in practice. Our drivers are also enthusiastic. Additionally, having AMCON as a reliable local partner who supports us comprehensively and provides advice and assistance is a great advantage,” says Marco Janßen from Wilhelm Janßen Omnibusbetrieb.

Innovative data transmission

Samsung Active Tab tablets serve as a reliable user interface and on-board computer for the UFHO system, displaying processes for ticket sales, route information, and schedule status. Innovative Bluetooth adapters control the interior and exterior displays. Sales data is transmitted via WLAN or mobile network to the associated UFHO backend system in the AMCON cloud. The timetable data in VDV452 standard is also processed and visualized for the driver on the tablet. For controlling vehicle components, the specially developed Bluetooth/IBIS adapter from ÖPNV-Service is used, which operates the standardized interface to the vehicle systems and is unique in its design on the market. This was previously not possible with tablet solutions. “We are pleased to have convinced Wilhelm Janßen, a customer from our home region, of our UFHO system. The 16 buses have been equipped with the new system for a few days now. The intuitively operable, multi-layered architecture of the UFHO system strengthens productivity, increases customer satisfaction, and accelerates operational processes,” said Olaf Clausen, Managing Director of AMCON GmbH.

Breakthrough of a smart technology

Ticket printers used to require a lot of space. Ergonomically integrating them into the driver’s workspace was previously associated with significant effort. AMCON’s UFHO sales application uses the Samsung Active Tab, a robust and durable tablet, whose vehicle mount can be easily integrated into any vehicle cockpit with minimal space requirements. The Bluetooth-connected printers have also been installed in a space-saving manner in the buses.
