AMCON Software GmbH from Cloppenburg has been committed to training its own specialists for many years and takes on more than ten new trainees and dual students every year.

To attract new trainees, AMCON actively participates in various career orientation events, such as the nationwide Future Day and the regional holiday program “Ferienpass.” Thanks to this commitment, AMCON stood out among companies across Germany and was nominated, along with four other organizations, for the 2023 “Ausbildungs-Ass” award in the category of “Training Initiatives.” This award honors the most innovative and forward-thinking training programs in Germany each year. The award ceremony will take place on November 6, 2023, in Berlin.

The “Nachwuchs fördert Nachwuchs” initiative: Young talent guiding the next generation

Through its activity days, AMCON introduces children and young people to careers in the IT industry at an early stage. Participants rotate through multiple stations, where they complete various tasks and gain their first programming experience in a playful, hands-on way. The initiative’s motto is “Nachwuchs fördert Nachwuchs” (“Young talent supports young talent”) — and what makes it truly special is that AMCON’s own trainees are responsible for organizing, running, and following up on these events. “For us, this initiative is a win-win. Our trainees take ownership of a project, learning independence, responsibility, and organizational skills. At the same time, we help young people explore career options early on. It’s a great opportunity for us to identify and nurture future talent whom we can then train into skilled professionals. After all, training holds a very high priority for us,” says Olaf Clausen, Managing Director of AMCON.

Verkehrsverbund Kärnten relies on AMCON

The Carinthia Transport Association has selected AMCON to deliver a new central ticketing backend system.

Cloppenburg/Klagenfurt (May 23, 2023) – The Klagenfurt-based company Verkehrsverbund Kärnten GmbH (VKG) is responsible for organizing and coordinating the commissioning and funding of public transport services within the Kärntner Linien transport network in the Austrian state of Carinthia.

As part of the “Digital Mobility Services Carinthia” (DiMoK) project, VKG launched a Europe-wide tender in 2022 to establish a central sales backend system—designed to serve as a data and information hub for digital mobility services within the Kärntner Linien network.
AMCON impressed with its future-oriented solution concept and has now been awarded the contract.

Centralized sales background system based on modern and open standards

The contract covers the implementation of an open and scalable central sales backend system (Z-VHGS), which will serve as the foundation for a connected, efficient, and accessible platform for data and information exchange. The solution will be implemented using the AMCON.SYSTEM, with agile project management methods in place.

In the future, the Z-VHGS will form the core of a modern ticketing system for selling both paper-based and electronic tickets across all common sales channels in Carinthia. These channels include web-based sales portals, mobile customer apps, ticket vending machines, point-of-sale systems, on-board ticket sales in buses, and mobile sales terminals.

The system will place a stronger focus on the passenger, who will benefit directly from enhanced, real-time travel information—some of which is provided by third-party sources and integrated into the Z-VHGS. This includes route planning and connection details, disruption alerts, alternative route suggestions, and occupancy forecasts.

Additional project priorities include features for subscription and student ticket management, clearing, data warehousing, inspection solutions, and integration with external systems and service providers. AMCON relies on modern and open interface standards—such as the “Basis-API”—which uses established, standardized technologies to enable seamless data exchange across devices and system boundaries.

AMCON awarded contract in Regensburg

The Regensburg Transport Association has commissioned the Cloppenburg-based software company AMCON to implement a new central sales backend system.

Cloppenburg/Regensburg (26. April 2023) – The Regensburg Transport Association (RVV) manages mobility for residents of Regensburg and the surrounding districts. In addition to further developing the unified fare system, the RVV is also responsible for ticket sales and the strategic advancement of its sales systems.

To better meet the increasing demands in sales—especially with regard to digitalization in public transport—the RVV launched a Europe-wide tender in 2022 to procure a new central sales backend system. AMCON successfully prevailed against competitors in the bidding process and has now been awarded the contract.

Digitalization of sales processes based on the AMCON.SYSTEM

The core focus of the project is to digitally modernize sales processes across all channels. Going forward, RVV will use AMCON’s central sales system — AMCON.SYSTEM — which offers modular solutions for pre-sales, subscriptions, web sales, and electronic fare management to handle and issue VDV-KA-compliant eTickets.

The contract includes delivering 135 point-of-sale terminals and 2 self-service kiosks for customer centers and other sales locations. These will run AMCON.POS, the pre-sales solution that securely supports the sale of both paper and digital tickets throughout the network.

Another key part is managing customers and subscriptions. With AMCON.ABO, RVV can handle subscriptions for private individuals, corporate clients, and students, while keeping passenger data organized in a central customer database. The system is enhanced by AMCON.WEB, which allows passengers to quickly buy tickets or subscriptions via a web portal — and soon through the RVV app — and manage their products and personal details anytime. Additionally, authorized parties like employers, schools, or local authorities have access to a dedicated portal to review, edit, approve, or reject the information of their employees or students.

All data, including sales info from third-party providers, is collected centrally in the AMCON backend system. RVV staff can access it to monitor statistics and process it manually or automatically — for example, through an integrated subsidiary ledger that records all RVV cash flows in one place and then automatically transfers them to the main accounting system.

Web-based sales platforms, electronic fare management, VDV-KA eTicketing, and multimodal transport are becoming more important, making it essential to upgrade our technical systems. At the same time, traditional ticket sales through our partner agencies remain popular, so it was time to introduce new technology. AMCON implements Deutschlandticket platform for Transdev Vertrieb

The Lower Saxony-based software company AMCON is implementing a web and app-based sales platform for Transdev Vertrieb to support the launch of the Deutschlandticket in May.

Cloppenburg/Leipzig (April 12, 2023) – Transdev Vertrieb GmbH, based in Leipzig, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Transdev GmbH and was founded in 2015 to provide sales services in public transport. In addition to traditional ticket sales through vending machines and staffed sales points, Transdev Vertrieb has gradually expanded its service offerings in recent years to include additional digital sales channels.

The latest example is the web portal “Deutschlandticket.de,” through which customers can purchase the Deutschlandticket from April 3 at a monthly subscription price of 49 euros, as well as the related “Deutschlandticket.de App.”

Customized individual development in less than 3 months

The technical implementation of the customer portal and the mobile app for Android and iOS devices was completed by AMCON within less than three months. At times, up to 10 software developers were working simultaneously on the project.

Through the intuitive user interfaces of the web and app solutions, users can register, subscribe to the Deutschlandticket, and manage their personal, contract, and payment information at any time. The subscription automatically renews for an additional month unless it is canceled. The static tickets are then automatically regenerated and sent to the customer via email. Alternatively, customers can view their tickets directly in the portal or the app.

AMCON provides Dortmunder Stadtwerke with a modern control solution.

Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG (DSW21) has commissioned software manufacturer AMCON to implement a mobile control system for public transport. This includes 70 mobile inspection devices that utilize AMCON’s smart sales and control solution.

Cloppenburg/Dortmund (February 20, 2023) – The mobility division of Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG (DSW21) operates the public transport system in the city of Dortmund and its surrounding areas, with a total of 8 light rail lines and 75 bus routes.

To better meet the increasing demands in public transport in the context of digital transformation, Dortmunder Stadtwerke (DSW21) sought a streamlined and future-proof solution for ticket inspection and the collection of increased fare charges (EBE).

As part of a pilot phase, AMCON delivered initial inspection devices with its sales and control solution, AMCON.MOBILE, to DSW21 in 2022. AMCON has now been awarded the contract to supply a total of 70 inspection devices, including mobile Bluetooth printers and the associated backend system. The new sales and control solution is scheduled to be gradually put into operation by mid-2023.

(((eTicket inspection using standardized product and control modules (PKM)

AMCON.MOBILE is used as the control solution on a total of 70 mobile inspection devices from Point Mobile. Both traditional paper tickets and eTickets based on the VDV-KA standard are checked. The latter may be presented as static entitlements (e.g., 2D barcodes on paper or smartphones) or in electronic form (e.g., on a smart card). Ticket validity is verified based on the four regional fare systems in North Rhine-Westphalia—AVV, VRS, VRR, and WestfalenTarif—using the NRW Product and Control Module (PKM), which ensures that inspections are always carried out with up-to-date fare and product data.

The recording of increased fare charges (EBE) is also fully digital and integrated across processes. The address data collected by ticket inspectors is validated in real time, and all EBE data is immediately transferred to the AMCON backend system (HGS), where it can be accessed and processed directly by the responsible staff.

“The public transport sector requires increasingly flexible solutions—particularly in the area of inspection processes—to respond quickly to new and evolving market and policy demands, such as the current introduction of the Deutschlandticket.
