AMCON puts new customer terminals into operation in Erlangen

The software manufacturer AMCON will deliver 17 new customer information terminals to Erlangen’s municipal utilities and put them into operation by the beginning of 2023.

Cloppenburg/Erlangen (December 12, 2022) – Erlanger Stadtwerke AG (ESTW), through its subsidiary Erlanger Stadtwerke Stadtverkehr GmbH, operates 16 bus lines, providing public transport services in the Erlangen area. At the beginning of the year, AMCON was awarded a contract by ESTW for the installation and commissioning of a total of 17 cashless customer information terminals throughout the city of Erlangen.

On December 8, 2022, the official launch took place, with the first five terminals going into operation. By the end of the year, the city’s 10 existing ticket vending machines are set to be replaced by modern customer information terminals offering cashless ticket purchasing. In the new year, seven additional devices will be installed and commissioned at new locations.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the “Digitalization of Municipal Transport Systems” program, covering 50% of the total project cost.

At the center of the innovations: Real-time information and cashless ticket sales

In the future, the new customer terminals will help shape the cityscape of Erlangen. Unlike traditional ticket vending machines, the weather-resistant terminals from Pyramid Computer stand out due to their modern, compact design and especially their 32-inch touchscreen displays.

These screens run the AMCON.POS sales solution, which allows passengers to purchase tickets cashlessly via an intuitive user interface. The terminals also provide additional passenger information, such as timetable details for all lines serving the location.

The customer terminals are connected to AMCON’s backend system. This system allows ESTW to manage fare and device data, customize the sales interface, and generate comprehensive statistics. Revenue data is automatically transferred to the main accounting system.

“In addition to AMCON’s well-known sales and distribution features, the passenger information and expanded functionality—made possible through interfaces to DEFAS and eTicket Deutschland—are important components of the new customer terminals. AMCON awarded contract for new ticket machine project

Stadtverkehr Lübeck commissions the Lower Saxony-based software manufacturer AMCON to enhance its sales solution in Travemünde with 10 modern customer terminals for cashless ticket sales.

AMCON (September 14, 2022) – Stadtverkehr Lübeck GmbH (SL) is a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Lübeck Holding GmbH. With 25 bus lines, Stadtverkehr Lübeck covers public transport in the city of Lübeck and the surrounding area and operates a ferry service across the Trave River between Travemünde and the Priwall.

On behalf of Stadtverkehr Lübeck, AMCON will commission ten new cashless self-service customer terminals by the end of 2022 in the area of the Travemünde ferry terminal, replacing four of the total eight existing cash-based ticket machines.

Cashless ticket sales on modern customer terminals.

The new terminals from Pyramid Computer, designed for outdoor use, stand out not only because of their modern and compact design but especially due to their 32-inch touchscreens. The AMCON.POS sales solution will be used on these terminals, enabling passengers to purchase tickets cashlessly via an intuitively operable sales interface. Initially, tickets will be issued as classic paper tickets; however, the customer terminals are already equipped with an additional barcode scanner and an eTicket writing and reading unit, making them prospectively ready for eTicket processing as well.

The terminals are connected to the AMCON backend system, which is already in productive use by Stadtverkehr Lübeck and will be enhanced with additional functions as part of the project implementation. With the AMCON backend system, Stadtverkehr Lübeck can, among other things, manage tariff and device data, design the sales interfaces of the customer terminals as desired, and generate extensive sales reports.

AMCON implements new sales solution for Transdev Vertrieb at agilis

The sales service provider Transdev Vertrieb has been commissioned by the two agilis companies — agilis Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH & Co. KG and agilis Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG — to handle sales operations. AMCON is providing the central sales back-end system through which future sales will be conducted across all sales channels.

AMCON (June 15, 2022) Agilis is a railway company based in Regensburg. On behalf of the Free State of Bavaria, the two agilis companies operate approximately ten percent of Bavarian regional rail passenger transport in the Regensburg/Donautal (RDO) and Regionalverkehr Oberfranken (RVOF) networks.

On behalf of Transdev Vertrieb GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Transdev GmbH, the Lower Saxony-based software manufacturer AMCON is delivering an industry solution with the AMCON.SYSTEM. Starting from the end of 2022 (RDO) and the end of 2023 (RVOF), Transdev Vertrieb will handle all sales processes for agilis using this system.

A comprehensive solution for all sales channels

The contract includes the delivery and commissioning of a central sales back-end system along with associated sales components, such as a webshop, five staffed sales offices/customer centers, and 155 conductor terminals. In addition, 134 new stationary ticket vending machines from the company Scheidt & Bachmann will be integrated into the system.

The centerpiece of the new sales solution is the modular AMCON.SYSTEM — AMCON’s central sales back-end system. All processes come together in this system. In the future, the AMCON.SYSTEM will manage tariff data for the DTV, BW, RVV, DING, VGN, and VGI fare systems, administer subscriptions, evaluate and settle sales data from connected sales devices and applications, and generate revenue reports relevant to the transport associations.

Regular ticket sales will be conducted through the newly acquired Scheidt & Bachmann vending machines, the AMCON webshop, and the staffed sales offices/customer centers. The cash registers will be equipped with the sales application AMCON.POS, which integrates seamlessly with the back-end system and enables cashless sales as well as the issuance of tickets and eTickets. The Scheidt & Bachmann machines will receive tariff data from the AMCON.SYSTEM in HUSST format and send their revenue data back to the AMCON back-end system based on this standard.

On the conductor terminals, the mobile control and sales solution AMCON.MOBILE will be used, allowing the verification of static authorizations and electronic chip cards, such as eTickets compliant with VDV-KA. Recording and issuing of increased transport charges (EBE) and cashless ticket sales are also part of the standard functionality of the commissioned solution.

The new sales solutions will be put into operation starting from the timetable changes at the end of 2022 (RDO) and the end of 2023 (RVOF).

AMCON impresses visitors at IT-TRANS with innovative software solutions

The Cloppenburg-based software manufacturer AMCON presented its innovative software solutions in Karlsruhe.

AMCON (May 18, 2022) – Last week, the IT-TRANS conference took place in Karlsruhe. IT-TRANS is an international conference and trade fair for intelligent public transport solutions and is one of the most important industry events. AMCON showcased its entire product portfolio centered around the innovative AMCON.SYSTEM.

Among the presentations were mobile inspection devices, intelligent cash register systems, ticket printers, and the latest-generation customer terminals. The highlight was the new cashless customer terminal, which impresses both with its modern design and its technical functionalities in combination with the AMCON.SYSTEM.

Interest was so high that even the 13-member AMCON booth staff became stretched at times. Managing Director Olaf Clausen is also enthusiastic: “IT-TRANS is one of the most important industry gatherings for us. I am overwhelmed by the interest in our products and have had so many conversations that my voice went hoarse. This clearly speaks for a great and successful trade fair and shows that AMCON has significantly developed and that our products meet the industry’s requirements.”

AMCON presented innovative software solutions for the bus sector

AMCON (May 4, 2022) – On April 27 and 28, the BUS2BUS event took place in Berlin for the third time, serving as a successful start to the 2022 trade fair year for the Cloppenburg-based software manufacturer. BUS2BUS is a combination of trade fair, congress, and future forum, bringing together bus operators with bus manufacturers, suppliers, service providers, and visionaries.

AMCON impressed visitors with various ticket printers and the modular back-end system AMCON.SYSTEM. On site, visitors had the opportunity to get a firsthand experience of the hardware-independent driver and sales application AMCON.BUS on four different devices and try it out. Among other things, AMCON presented intelligent bus solutions such as real-time vehicle occupancy in the ITCS, even more flexible passenger information, as well as control and sales for demand-responsive transport services.

The next important industry trade fair, IT-TRANS in Karlsruhe, will take place the following week. AMCON will present its entire product portfolio centered around the AMCON.SYSTEM there.

The Lower Saxony-based software manufacturer AMCON continues to focus on growth and welcomes its 100th employee in April.

AMCON (April 19, 2022) – AMCON Software GmbH, based in Cloppenburg, is a provider of modern sales and ticket inspection systems as well as multimodal mobility platforms for public transport.

Since its founding in 2010, AMCON has grown steadily, evolving from a small two-person operation into one of the largest software companies in the Oldenburger Münsterland region. An increasing number of customers now rely on AMCON’s expertise and software solutions. In 2022 alone, due to a strong order situation, 13 new employees – primarily software developers – have already been hired. In April 2022, AMCON welcomed its 100th employee.

AMCON wins ticket machine project in Erlangen

The software provider AMCON has won the Europe-wide tender issued by Stadtwerke Erlangen and has been awarded the contract for the installation and commissioning of 17 cashless customer information terminals.

AMCON (March 16, 2022) – Erlanger Stadtwerke AG (ESTW), through its subsidiary Erlanger Stadtwerke Stadtverkehr GmbH, operates 16 bus routes, providing public transport services in the Erlangen area.

In 2021, ESTW launched a Europe-wide tender aimed at replacing 10 ticket machines within the city with modern customer information terminals that also enable cashless ticket purchases. Additionally, 7 new devices are to be installed at new locations. The project is supported by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the funding program “Digitalization of Municipal Transport Systems”, with a grant of €250,000.

AMCON was able to prevail over its competitors in the tender process and has been awarded the project.

Passenger information and cashless ticket sales on innovative customer terminals

Starting in spring 2022, the existing ticket machines operated by ESTW will gradually be replaced by modern customer terminals from Pyramid Computer. These new outdoor-ready terminals stand out for their modern, compact design and large 32-inch touchscreen displays.

The terminals will feature the AMCON.POS sales solution, enabling customers to purchase tickets cashlessly. These can be issued as traditional paper tickets via a user-friendly interface, which can be individually configured within the AMCON.SYSTEM. The terminals will also be equipped with an eTicket read/write unit that initially allows the reading of authorization data and supports campaign management functions.

In addition to ticket sales, the large screens make the terminals ideal for displaying additional passenger information, such as departure times and timetable updates. These real-time updates will be delivered to AMCON.POS via the state-wide data hub and displayed directly on the terminals for customers.

The customer terminals will be connected to AMCON’s central back-end system, allowing ESTW to manage fare and device data, customize the sales interface, and generate detailed statistics. Revenue data will be automatically transferred to the main accounting system.

AMCON puts cash recycler into operation for Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH

AMCON (March 10, 2022) – Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH is a municipal transport company and part of Stadtwerke Schwerin. It operates four tram lines, 15 bus lines, and a ferry service, covering a network of nearly 200 kilometers.

At the end of 2019, AMCON was commissioned to deliver a new sales system for Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH, which renews and consolidates all existing components. Previously, processes such as advance ticket sales, subscription customer sales, and the recording of increased transport charges (EBE) were handled through various individual systems. The AMCON back-end system now unifies all of these functions into a single platform.

Commissioning of the cash recycler optimizes the payment process with cash

Following the successful installation of the new sales system, AMCON has now been commissioned to equip the service center with a cash recycler. This allows customers to pay with cash by simply inserting the money into the device. The cash is then automatically counted and processed. Payment handling data is seamlessly integrated through the existing cashier software. This makes payment and cash handling faster, easier, and more hygienic, as sales staff no longer need to count, sort, or physically handle the cash.

The cash recycler was met with enthusiasm by both employees and customers during the customer center’s opening on Friday, March 4th. Fully integrated into the existing store setup, the cash recycler also impresses with its sleek design.

Transdev Vertrieb GmbH commissions the Lower Saxony software manufacturer AMCON with the technical implementation of a nationwide job ticket solution.

AMCON (March 7, 2022) – Transdev Vertrieb GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Transdev GmbH, has commissioned software provider AMCON with the technical implementation of a nationwide job ticket solution. The goal is to offer companies operating at multiple locations across Germany a centralized and comprehensive job ticket system for all their employees — regardless of their individual workplace.

This requires a central booking and sales platform that takes into account the regionally varying fare and transport regulations within Germany’s complex tariff landscape. AMCON is responsible for developing and implementing this platform.

New product development based on the AMCON.SYSTEM

Development of the job ticket platform has already begun. Although the job ticket solution is a custom product developed specifically for Transdev Vertrieb, it leverages proven system components from AMCON’s industry solution, including subscription, tariff, and document management features from the AMCON.SYSTEM.

Access to the job ticket platform will be provided through separate web portals connected via open web APIs. Customers participating in the job ticket program will be able to easily purchase and manage travel authorizations using any internet-enabled device. Employees will have the ability to apply for job tickets, pause them, or return them, while employers can review applications, process collective requests, and initiate billing cycles.

“We want to offer companies and their employees a comprehensive service in ticket management that currently does not exist anywhere else in Germany. AMCON delivers mobile control and sales solution to National Express

As of February 1, 2022, National Express Rail GmbH will take over the RE 1 and RE 11 lines of the Rhein-Ruhr-Express (RRX) from Abellio Rail GmbH NRW. Software provider AMCON has been commissioned to equip 66 additional mobile control and sales terminals with the necessary software — delivering within six weeks.

AMCON (February 1, 2022) – National Express Rail GmbH, a German company and part of the British National Express Group PLC (NX Group), has been operating the RE 7 (Rhein-Münsterland-Express) and RB 48 (Rhein-Wupper-Bahn) lines in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2015. National Express is also the operator of the initial service for the future Rhein-Ruhr-Express (RRX). In 2019, it took over the RE 5 (RRX) and RE 6 (RRX) lines, followed by the RE 4 line in 2020.

Following the insolvency of the Dutch regional public transport provider Abellio NRW, National Express Rail GmbH was awarded the contract to operate the RE 1 (RRX) and RE 11 (RRX) lines as part of an emergency procurement procedure starting February 1, 2022. To operate these new lines, 66 additional mobile POS terminals were required. AMCON was commissioned to supply the devices and delivers them “just-in-time” with its mobile control and sales solution.

AMCON.MOBILE - the user-friendly control and sales solution from AMCON

AMCON.MOBILE will be deployed on the 66 additional POS terminals supplied by Almex. With AMCON.MOBILE, tickets can be sold and checked remotely, and increased transportation charges (EBE) can be recorded. Data transmission and real-time verification of address data are integral features. Customer service agents working for National Express can directly view and process the data within the existing backend system. As part of this project, the software solution was extended to include the fare zone of the Nordhessischer Verkehrsverbund (NVV).
